GROOMING FAQS

Why can't you give me an exact price before the groom is completed?

Simply put, every dog is different! Our prices are based on a STARTING price for a service, and increase based on the amount of time taken, the agreeability of the dog, and the current state of your dog's coat. We do our absolute best to give you an accurate estimate of the expected cost and duration of your appointment, but things are liable to change when dealing with live animals. To keep your rates as low as possible, we recommend maintaining your pet's coat at home through daily brushings, keeping your dog on a consistent grooming schedule, and looking into desensitization training if your pet struggles with severe grooming aggression or anxiety.

How often should my dog come for grooming?

We recommend that all doodles, designer breeds, and dogs with show cuts enroll in our Grooming Maintenance Program. This program schedules your dog for a Full Groom and Hygiene Groom appointment that alternates every three weeks. This program, along with daily brushing at home, will help deter any severe matting or developing skin issues that often come with dogs with high coat maintenance requirements. Keep your pet's skin and coat healthy, save our groomers the time, and your wallet is the extra fees by staying consistent with your grooming schedule!

How often should my dog's nails be trimmed?

A good way to tell if your dog is ready for a nail trim is by listening to them walk on a hard surface. If their nails are clicking, its time for a trimming! If your dog has long quicks (blood vessels inside the nail), it may take a few months of consistent dremmeling to slowly recede to a shorter length.

My dog HATES the groomer... Can you help?

We understand that grooming can be a very stressful experience for some dogs. We do our best to keep our pups calm, taking breaks as needed. In cases of displayed aggression, we may opt to muzzle or have additional handlers assist in the process. If our staff's safety is at risk, we will be required to end the session and will notify you immediately regarding next steps. In these rare cases, we will likely encourage further desensitization training or recommend you to our sedation groomer.

How do I know if my dog is matted?

Matting occurs when coarse, curly, and long haired coats are not consistently brushed. Check your dog's coat thoroughly and regular while line brushing. You should be able to get a fine-toothed comb through every area of your pet's coat. If there are thick patches of hair that do not easily separate with you fingers, it is likely that matting has occurred in that area.

Tangling that is not addressed can lead to dense patches of matting. In some cases, these matts may be brushed out with a detangling product and a lot of patience. Oftentimes, however, removal of these matts through brushing is impossible and considered inhumane. These tangles must be shaved out, because leaving them will lead to severe skin issues (when moisture is trapped underneath the matts) and bruising (as the knots pull the hair and skin tight with no relief). Our groomers will evaluate each situation, and let you know ahead of time if shaving beyond what was already discussed will be necessary.
